Welcome:
Welcome to Spring! It`s very easy to be grateful when we are greeted with such stunning weather. It`s even easier for us when we have a gorgeous toddler who races up to smell the Pink Jasmine blossom on the back fence like there is nothing else worth living for!!
Thank you for taking your precious time to read this newsletter. Today`s issue is food for thought about effective leadership. Whether you`re head of a multi-national corporation or have the more challenging job of leading a household, effective leadership is a quality worthy of your time.
Time, if not already, is fast becoming people`s most precious resource & choosing how to spend it needs to be given the respect it deserves. Through my Coaching, Life Coaching in particular, I`ve seen a modern day dilemma on the increase: fear of decision-making. Our problem isn`t what to do with our time, it`s what NOT to do with our time because we are literally spoilt for choice.
More and more people are looking to great leaders for direction. People still don`t want to be told what to do but they do want to be shown the way.
12 Aspects of GREAT Leadership:
In your role as a Leader, including parenting, consider where you`re at with the following:
1. Thinking ``Range``
When contemplating your options, how far into the future do you go? Short-term thinking only means that you`re going to have to redo this task sooner than necessary. The longer term thinking you have, the longer you can spend doing something else!
2. Vision
What can you see happening? You need insight and foresight to steer your boat in the right direction. The more you can see, the further you & your followers can travel.
3. Planning v Crisis Management
Do you focus on what`s important or urgent? How often do you you plan? It`s integral to know what`s important so you can avoid fire fighting altogether by doing first things first and being proactive.
4. Standard of Communication
Is your standard of communication consistently high? Or just when you could be bothered? We all have energy lulls but when we`re leading the way, we can never sacrifice our communication because `followers` are relying on it.
5. Giving of Self
Are you generous with who you`re being at all times or are you guarded and fearful of what people would do with the truth? You need to be confident within yourself that you are enough & you`re doing enough. You can`t give away what you don`t have & you need to inspire confidence.
6. Be Curious, be VERY Curious
Are you always curious or do you often think, "I already know this"? Every little piece of information is what forms the basis for visionary action & the four most limiting words are: I already know this.
7. Deep rooted understanding of the roles` functions
How familiar are you with what you`re meant to be doing & what`s expected of you? Leaders naturally exceed expectations. If they just did the same as everyone else, well, they`d be a follower!
8. Change Agent
How comfortable are you with change? Leaders are by definition at the forefront of change: they anticipate it`s arrival & are prepared for it.
9. Centre of Influence & Motivation
How do you lead by example? How much thought do you put into the impact that you have on any onlookers? Every Leader is a role model. (The most important role model in the world is a parent.) What you do really does matter that much as other people are looking to you for direction. The younger the mind you`re impacting, the more important the impact of your actions.
10.Interaction & Interpersonal Skills
Are you a highly effective person when it comes to interacting? Be proactive. Begin with the end in mind. Seek first to understand and then be understood. Think win/win. Listen twice, talk once.
11.Delegation & Prioritisation
How decisive and confident are you when it comes to knowing what needs to be done & who needs to do it? You can`t & shouldn`t do everything yourself. Success is like an iceberg with you as the Leader at the tip & your team `underneath`.
12.Integrity
How close to operating out of complete integrity are you? Know what your core values are and operate in alignment with them at all times. This is complete integrity.
